CHAPTER X: IT ALL BEGAN SO INNOCENTLY...

Jake, Jimmy, and me. The 3 bears or musketeers or stooges or something like that.

I had called into my office and feigned boredom or major catastrophe or a typhoon or something like that exotic as hell, and my ASSistant just rolled his eyes (I could see that even over the phone), and said he would cover. I knew this would cost me dearly, it always does, but so be it.

Jake did the same, and I am sure HIS ASSistant did the same as mine.

Jimmy kept calling his father, but for two days nothing and he seemed nowhere to be found, so Jimmy stayed with us at our insistence and it took ABSOLUTELY NO pleading or cajoling to get him to. I sensed he was at the very least miserable at home...but I sensed it was more than that...and I aimed to find out what and why.

I had a hunch, but as they say...one thing at a time.

Ok, time.

"Jimmy?"
"Yeah?"
"What is up at home. What is going on?"
Like Jake does with me..., I aimed to worm it out of him no matter what.
"You act almost scared to go home."

There ensued a long moment of silence before Jimmy finally spoke.
"Yeh, I guess I am maybe."

I looked at him, then at Jake. Paydirt.
"WHY? Is it because of what you told us yesterday?"
That is what I was sure it was and I was right. Jimmy just sat, mug in hand, and nodded slowly,
He really was spooked and that was obvious. Another reason to get to the bottom of things. Jimmy was scared.

Ok, back to cogitating.

OK, TIME.

Neither Jake nor I need much time when it comes to sleuthy...or so it would seem.

"Jimmy."
"Yeh?"
"You will stay with us...ok?"
"Sure."
"Keep trying to get ahold of your father. When you do, we...ALL of us, are going to go over there and THIS is what is gonna happen."

He nodded and so did Jake. I knew Jake and I would continue laying out a plan later...probably after going to bed. HEY, I DO SOME OF MY BEST WORK, uh...in bed. LOL.

I was right. I do and we did and by sometime in the wee hours Jake and I had concocted a plan, done a massive destruction job on a chocolate creme cake, and several quarts of ice cream, but of course we needed to keep up our strength. THAT IS if we could still waddle well enough to use it. Hehehe.
