CHAPTER III ME, JAKE, & THE PLAN...a work in progress

'Got any ideas?"
Jake looked at me as he said that and I looked right back.

"Yeh, actually."
"Yeh, like what?"
"You'll see."

For a moment,we sat in silence. Neither of us saying anything, maybe because neither of us knew what to say. I knew I had to find truth, and i felt that now Jake did too. But first, it was late and so sleep was needed. I said as much and upstairs we went and sleep came quickly, for me anyway.

The next morning, I got downstairs right after Jake and made us some breakfast. Enough to tide us over at least, and having done that...

I got up and pulled him up with me and headed for the door to the driveway at a good clip.
"Hold on, geez," Jake whispered in an out-of-breath tone about half way out.

"No time to waste," I answered as we got in his car.

"Where do we go?"
"Ricky's," I answered.
"Ok," he said without hesitation.
He turned the key and the huge engine roared to life, and we zoomed off, to what neither of us was at all sure. But I was determined to find out once and for all. It had been bad enough losing my mother  last year...but losing Ricky too was just way too much...and it just didn't make any sense, even all these months later. He had no reason to kill himself. He didn't. He was happy and I knew it. We were the best of friends and had been for a long time. Ricky and Jake and I were the three musketeers. Everyone knows that.  I knew that boy inside and out. If he had been depressed or troubled or something I WOULD HAVE KNOWN. I am sure of it. But there was NOTHING to indicate that. Nothing.

I wasn't about to tell Jake what I suspected though. I am not too sure why. Maybe I thought he would try to talk me out of it even though I knew that wasn't likely. He loves me.

Yeh, yeh. I know. He is straight as an arrow and I am...well, not. LOL But he loves me and always has and there it is. We are close enough we could be married to each other and I like that. He seems to too, and yet....

Oh well, time for that little melodrama later. For now, I got bigger fish to fry...like, what in the fuck REALLY happened to Ricky?

I knew I was bound and determined to find out and even though all I had to go on was my intuition and instincts and...

They have served me well before and I needed them to again.

The drive over to Ricky's was fairly short and fairly quiet. We both had a mind full of questions, and no answers.
