CHAPTER IX: WHAT WE KNOW AND WHAT WE DON'T...

Morning came and I got up first. To be honest, I hadn't slept worth a shit and probably looked like it too. I eased my way out of bed so as not to awaken Jake and made my way downstairs to the kitchen and coffee.

AHHH, The elixir of the Gods and I was really enjoying it when Jake came into view.
"Hey," he grinned toothily and I tried to respond. I really did, and after getting himself a mug of BREW, joined me at the BR table.

For several minutes we just sipped and sat and sat and sipped. Then..
"So, whatcha think?"

"Think? I try so hard not to..." and he laughed.

"Ok, so here is what I am pretty sure we now know.
Ricky did NOT commit suicide and it is virtually impossible to die of natural causes by HANGING yourself.  I  also think that if Jimmy is correct and that seems plausible, that we know or at least suspect...he was murdered AND BY WHOM."

"Agreed."
"Ok, so what we DON'T KNOW is HOW AND WHY."

"Yeh, and that is the kicker."
"Yep and the pesky part now is...HOW DO WE PROVE IT?"

"Bingo," Jake said just as Jimmy walked into the breakfast room.

"Mornin' guys," he said while heading to the coffeemaker...and while he was trying, he didn't seem any more chipper than I did. Even Jake was a bit lower key than usual. But at least we had made some progress and time would tell how it all came out. It wouldn't be easy that much I knew, but I OWED it to Ricky to get to the truth and make sure people knew he didn't kill himself. He just wasn't that kind of person.

GOD I miss that fool.

The three of us sat at the breakfast table in front of the big windows that overlook the river beyond, seemingly lost in thought. Only the sounds of coffee being sipped broke the otherwise almost eerie silence. We were a motley crew to be sure, but I do think looking back at that morning that all of us needed a bit of time to coalesce our thoughts and then to merge them all together. That was the process that hopefully would lead us to a resolution of sorts.

Jimmy had spilled a LOT of beans yesterday, but how to take all that potential knowledge and let it lead us to the answer we all so desperately needed to find?

How, indeed?
